Island life

We are finally done with the whole go-go-go part of the trip and are finally starting to relax and take it easy. We did end up spending 4 nights in Bangkok which wasn’t all that bad. We arrived a day before my birthday and since I wanted to sleep in on my birthday we decided not to book any activities for that day. We ended up going out for drinks that night and got a few buckets. They had a great 2 for 1 deal going so we spent like $20 on 4 buckets of alcohol, then watched kids suckering tourists into buy there crappy souvenirs or roses. They tried there hardest to get me to buy one and I refused which ended up with the girl calling me a lady boy, then calling Jessie one aswell, sigh. Read the rest of this entry »

Happy New Years from Thailand

Hello from Thailand. Jess and I have been in Chiang Mai (northern Thailand) for about a week now, we arrived here on New Years eve. We celebrated new years at a bar near our guesthouse. They had a free concert going on near the main gate to the city, which we wandered around a bit and also watched as the locals (and some tourists) lighted these lanterns that would fly off once they collected enough hot air. There had to be hundreds in the sky all night, was cool to watch .. wonder where they all landed?!? We spent our first full day booking stuff for the following couple days and then wandered around the city. Chiang Mai has amazing markets, we’ve spent every evening in the markets wasting time and money .. you name it, they have it .. or a copy of it .. so good. Read the rest of this entry »

Vietnam done .. onto Cambodia

So we caught a train from Sa Pa into Ha Noi which arrived about 5:30am, then we caught a taxi into the old quarter (which ripped us off horribly) where we were going to catch a bus at 9:00am heading out to a town called Ninh Binh. Ninh Binh was quite relaxing, the first day we did a boat ride through an area called Tam Coc, which is like Ha Long bay but on rice paddies. We started our boat ride a bit late in the day, so I was helping to paddle and everyone we went by thought that was pretty funny … I got many looks as to what the heck was I doing, it worked out well because I just paddled and Jess had to deal with the 2 locals in the boat trying to sell us stuff. The following day we did a motorbike tour of the surrounding area. We did a small boat ride and wandered through some caves that were so dark we had to take pictures then look at the pictures to see what was in front of us. We saw some older temples and a new one they were building which was absolutely huge, as well as did climb up to a lookout of the surrounding area. We ended up just spending the 1 night in Ninh Binh as anymore might have been boring … so we caught a sleeping bus the second night, that was going to take about 12 hours and were off down the coast to a city called Hue. Vietnam thus far…

So here we are, finally some time to stop and annoy you all with a nice trip update .. hopefully I can keep this quick as it’s feaking freezing!!

So we started off in Ho Chi Minh City where we spent our first 4 days. They all drive like maniacs over here, most people cruise around on scooters and they zip in and out of traffic as if no one else was there .. its amazing that we haven’t seen an accident (yet). We saw some of the city’s sites and took in the good times during the Vietnam war. We ventured out to the Cu Chi tunnels where the Vietcong fought the Americans. Like clock work everyday around 4-5pm it poured and would flood the streets, we got caught out in the rain one day and had to walk through almost knee high puddles in the streets back to our hotel.  We had already booked our flight up to Ha Noi so we weren’t able to make it out to the Mekong Delta, but we are heading back down towards it so we will spend a few days there once we get back down. Brisbane…

Another post!

Our bus down to Sydney isn’t until late tonight (8:55pm) which is a 14hour~ bus ride .. woohoo! so im just wasting some time as the girls are busy showering.

We arrived in Brisbane on the 25th via bus and my friend Tim picked us up from the bus station as we were spending our days in Brisbane at his house (free accomodation!). The first evening wasnt anything special, we all lounged and had some beers and called it a night. The next day was Australia day, very similar to Canada day … everyone gets drunk and has a BBQ. We spent the day in the city doing some shopping .. was a fairly large “mall” as it was essentially about 2 blocks long but had all these mini malls tucked in and were all like 3 floors high. After a few hours in the city we hit the bottle shop and headed back to Tims for some more drinks and the BBQ. The evening started off quite relaxing with some beers and some sausages on bread with eggs inside of green pepper rings .. was quite interesting .. but after that the evening got very dramatic and interesting… Read the rest of this entry »
